The paper introduces the general ideal of the schema theory and analyzes the relationship between it and college English listening course. The introduction of background knowledge, the important part of schema, to listeners will make them well prepared for the listening activity and make it easier and more effective. Listeners will be more active and interested in class and gain more listening skills. The paper also emphasizes the importance of the establishing and improving schemata.
