The construction of discipline competition system is one of the effective ways of cultivating application-oriented tal-ents in universities, as it is a complement to traditional classroom teaching model, making students practice their theoretical knowledge. Through the scientific and rational setting of disci-pline competition system, the competition system arrangement suitable for practical situation, and the interesting and practical problems, a competition platform for civil engineering and con-struction students can be provided, which is conducive to the strengthening of students' applied ability and the improvement of their professional and occupational accomplishment. Taking the writer's college as an example, a beneficial exploration was made.
