Objective To investigate the relationship between marital status and prognosis of patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the penis (SCCP). Methods 2681 SCCP patients between 1988 to 2009 who underwent primary tumor excision (PTE), registered in Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, were retrospectively analyzed. Logistic regression analysis defined the relationship of marital status and tumor stage. Cox regression analysis determined the relationship between marital status and cancer-specific mortality (CSM). Results Of all patients, the majority (62.1%) were married. 22.1 and 15.5%patients were separated/divorced/widowed (SDW) and never married men, respectively. Multivariable Logistic models analysis showed that marital status had no effects on tumor stage (P>0.05). Multivariable Cox models analysis showed that the never married and SDW men had higher CSM rates (hazard ratio [HR]:1.194, P=0.005, HR:1.155, P=0.037, respectively) than married men. Conclusion Marital status might not be an independent risk factor for tumor stage. However, SDW and never married men had higher CSM rates than married men.
