In To the Lighthouse and Little Reunion, the fictional mother-daughter relationship similarly features with abnormal idiosyncrasy. On account of that abnormality, a comparative study is conducted from a psychoanalytic perspective to explore its causes. Although the female Oedipus complex tries to explain the abnormality between mother and daughter, it denies the ongoing connectedness between mother and daughter and mistakes ambivalence for abnormality. Instead, mother-daughter relationship should be understood to proceed along with self-versus-other and self-with-other lines and must be reinvestigated again and again at each point in their interconnected life cycles.
