Self-concept has its own special meaning and significance in different psychotherapy theories.Freud views self as the only part to exercise the cognitive function in one＇s personality,and as a primary reason for psychological problems;Byrne considered self to be the main character of personality.He divided it further into the parents self,the adult self,and the child self,and proposed that mental health depends on the relationship between the three concepts;Rogers emphasized the core status of self on one＇s subjective experience of the world,advocating that the spontaneous-free-self is the healthy-self;Pierce introduced the concept of psychological-borders and ability of self-awareness,which added the connotation of consciousness to the concept of healthy-self.
