Based on teachers＇ professional development theory and integrating the particularities of western rural education,the paper probes into the status quo of specially contracted teachers＇ professional development in four aspects： the establishment of teachers＇ professional ideals,the expansion of professional knowledge,the development of professional skills and the formation of professional self and then proposes the developing approaches： preliminary preparations for teaching education,the pre-and on-the-job and self-education.
