作为儒家经典,《四书》构建了一套完整的理想社会政治秩序。儒家理想的社会政治秩序首先强调个人修身,逐步推己及人、推己及家,在家庭内部实现以孝悌支配的理想秩序,进而将家庭秩序上升到国家秩序,主张以伦理道德规范社会政治。《四书》描绘的“修齐治平”秩序构建路径,为秦汉之后的帝国所不断效法。帝国现实的秩序在阶级结构上主要分为士绅、农民、商人,他们的行为规范、价值依归等遵循的都是《四书》中所展现的儒家理想社会政治秩序。在帝国兴替之际,《四书》所主张的秩序理想又为帝国秩序的重建提供了合法性支持。

As Confucian classics,the Four Books construct a systematic and ideal political order in imperial society. The ideal social and political order firstly emphasizes self-cultivation that will build a family order supported by filial piety, and finally the political order ruled by morals and ethics is a direct copy from family order. The approach of ethical philosophy described by the Four Books is always followed by many empires after Qin dynasty. The social structure in in the imperial society includes gentry, farmer and merchant. Their behavior rule and values also follow the morals and ethics in the ideal social and political order described by the Four books. During the dynastic changes, the ideal order designed by the Four Books provides legitimate support for the rebuild of imperial order.
