在新文化运动的影响下，民众读书风气日趋高涨，以读书会等为名的读书组织大量兴起，其主要缘由有三：其一、启迪民智的需要；其二、普通民众的阅读欲与书贵难求之间的矛盾；其三、民众读书风气的兴起与公共图书馆缺乏的矛盾。民国读书会主要以时间、年龄、职业和书店等命名，且有自身的规章制度，并取得了积极的效果，其发展趋势和所处的时代休戚相关。
재신문화운동적영향하，민음독서풍기일추고창，이독서회등위명적독서조직대량흥기，기주요연유유삼：기일、계적민지적수요；기이、보통민음적열독욕여서귀난구지간적모순；기삼、민음독서풍기적흥기여공공도서관결핍적모순。민국독서회주요이시간、년령、직업화서점등명명，차유자신적규장제도，병취득료적겁적효과，기발전추세화소처적시대휴척상관。
Under the influence of the New Culture Movement,people began to like reading very much,and a growing number of reading organizations such as reading clubs emerged.It was due to three main reasons:First,the need to en-lighten the people;Second,the contradiction between ordinary people's reading need and high prices of books;Third,the contradiction between the rise of people's reading habit and the lack of public libraries.The reading clubs were mainly named according to time,age,occupation,and bookstores and they had their own rules and regulations,and achieved positive results.The development trend of reading clubs was bound together with the times.
