The fact that reading plays an important role in our University English teaching is beyond doubt, but methods used for it still lack deficiency. This paper, based on genre and its analysis, briefly demonstrates how genre-based teaching approach is tried in our teaching at tertiary level. With the 'wheel' model of genre literacy pedagogy' adopted, some activities are designed in the classroom to help or guide students to analyze how the learning texts are organized macroscopically in the hope and with the purpose of enhancing the students' language awareness of the target language, thus leading to improve their reading competence to a certain extent.
