Yan Fu＇s＂Faithfulness Smoothness Elegance＂has been one of the hot topic in the Chinese translation history.It has played an important role in Chinese translation history.This paper first reviews the birth of＂Faithfulness Smoothness Elegance＂and some arguments of translation principle aroused by it,then analyses the causes of the important influence of Yan Fu＇s theory on the Chinese translation theory,finally the author ensures the theory＇s scientific and feasibility as a translation principle,and requires us to view it from the perspective of development and put it into translation practice.
