Virtual instrument integrates computer standard bus technology, digital signal processing technology and software engineering methods, is a software-based instrument, which represents the future direction of development of electronic measuring instruments. This article describes the virtual instrument and its application in the experimental teaching, and takes virtual oscilloscope as example giving a detailed discussion about its design and implementation process from the design of the front panel and block diagram. The practice shows that introduction of virtual instrument to experimental teaching can improve the hands-on practical ability of the students efficiently, enhance students' creative thinking ability and it meets the demand of the teaching.
