Miranda is the embodiment of beauty. Being pretty, kind-hearted, she is also very smart. While Clegg is atresic, narrow - minded, and very evil. These two contrast each other sharply. It is no incident that another ＂M＂＇s appearance in the end of the novel. This paper believes that it contains John Fowles ＂deep thinking of humanity： the coexistence of beauty and evil is permanent. The evil will never destroy the beauty.
