《红楼梦》与《水浒传》中均有对文中人物死亡的预叙,但两部小说死亡预叙的聚焦方式则有差异：《红楼梦》死亡预叙采用的是内部聚焦叙事,《水浒传》采用的是外部聚焦叙事。聚焦方式的差别体现出不同的死亡观：《红楼梦》认为死亡是惨痛人生的悲剧性结果,《水浒传》认为死亡是顺其自然的人生终结。
