Quantum cryptography has attracted a lot of attention in recent years, due to its particular characteristic of perfect security in information transmission. The most successful and important application- quantum key distribution, which has been applied firstly in quantum cryptography, was introduced by taking BB84 protocol as an example. The current state of research and future directions in this new field of science was briefly presented.
