Poly( D, L- lactide) has great potential applications in the biomedical field because of its favorable biocompatibility and biodegradability. The D, L - lactide~ ring - opening polymerization catalyzed by different metal compounds such as tin compounds, alkali metals compounds, alkaline - earth metals compounds, rare earth com- pounds, titanium compounds and iron compounds are briefly reviewed in this article.
