This article stands on tile case study of the landscaping designs of QingYuan Yun Shan Si Yi residential district-a classic example of a successfill modern implementation of traditional Lingnan style landscaping. Critical analysis will be made on how successful it has bee,s in achieving a series of landscaping objectives：l. Making renovations to integrate characteristics of traditional Lingnan style individual homes into a shared residential complex. 2. Demonstrating the philosophy of the Lingnan region, achieving ＂advantageous coexistence of multiple influences, open and pragmatic to changes＂. 3. Achieving an aesthetically pleasing appeal. 4. Continuing the tradition of having water features. 5. Selecting the native plants of the region in constructing lush subtropical gardens. 6. Being innovative with construction techniques and the use of materials.
