The mechanical properties of high chromium cast iron were improved by adding nitrogen. In order to understand the effects of nitrogen on high chromium cast iron, the phase diagram was simulated by Factsage, and the carbide morphology was analyzed by Imagepro plus. The results show that the impact toughness and hardness of high chromium cast iron are affected by nitrogen. When adding 0.07% of nitrogen, the impact toughness is 6.4 J/cm2. The hardness is to 64.5HRC after 0.4% of nitrogen.
