春秋战国时期，城市防御理念逐步形成，楚纪南城是当时城市防御的典型，具备强大的军事防御体系。其防御体系主要由都城选址、军事设施及周边环境有机组合而成。它运用河流、地势等有利的周边环境，并和都城本身的建构有效融合，形成了由里到外的多层军事防御体系。同时，折射出楚人的防御理念和军事思想。
춘추전국시기，성시방어이념축보형성，초기남성시당시성시방어적전형，구비강대적군사방어체계。기방어체계주요유도성선지、군사설시급주변배경유궤조합이성。타운용하류、지세등유리적주변배경，병화도성본신적건구유효융합，형성료유리도외적다층군사방어체계。동시，절사출초인적방어이념화군사사상。
In the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the city defense idea was gradually formed, which was typical of the Jinan City with strong system of military defense. This system was mainly made up by the capital site, military facility and surrounding environment. It took the advantage of rivers, terrain, etc. and effectively combined the construction of the capital, forming multideck system of military defense from inside to outside. Meanwhile, it reflected the defense idea and spirit of the Chu people.
