The basic theory of numerical calculations is summarized, and a brief introduction of the basic situations and product characteristics of the outstanding international cast filling and solidification simulation softwares may have some inspiration to the domestic software development and domestic manufacturers' choice of simulation software. Focusing on reviewing the application progress of the software in actual casting and research, the development of numerical simulation is discussed. It also clearly shows that it can optimize the casting microstructure, improve the quality, decrease the cost and reduce the design and trial cycle for the products by using the numerical simulation software properly.
