School readiness assessment helps to understand whether children, kindergarten and family are ready for school and provides the family and kindergarten with important information for necessary intervention to reduce school failure. The choice or writing of a scientific assessment instrument is the key premise in school readiness assessment. An analysis of the theoretical principle, application purpose, assessment contents, reliability and validity of 27 assessment instrument from abroad revealed that the research on school readiness instrument will need to be furthered, eg. a school-readiness-oriented ecologic concept could be applied in the design of assessment instrument for kindergarten, family and community, assessment contents of specific areas could be highlighted, the instruction role of assessment information in early intervention could be enhanced and the predictive validity of the assessment instrument could be increased.
