This paper introduces the fault conditions of a 220kV capacitor voltage transformer（CVT） in a 220kV substation firstly. And then several reasons of this fault are listed base on studying of the fault process and comprehensive analysis of several electrical tests data. Finally the clear and definite reasons are found by disassembling in- spection of the device and analyzing of the electrical tests data.
