The traditional proportional solenoid has disadvantages, such as big size and difficulty removing. So this paper introduces a new type of bi-directional proportional solenoid, and expounds the structure and working princi-ple in detail. On this basis, the mathematical model of the proportional solenoid is established, and its output charac-teristic is analyzed by the finite element tool Ansoft/Maxwell. Its structure parameters' influence on the output char-acteristic also is discussed through the electromagnetic field analysis. The simulation results show that this new type of bi-directional proportional solenoid can obtain a good static characteristic without the same magnetic circuit con-trol of the traditional proportional solenoid.
