西周时期逐步形成的“敬德保民”朴素民本思想,是中国古代社会传统治国理念的核心,其思想中所蕴含的“德”、“民”观,“德教”、“民本”、“修德”及为政以德的理念,对于古代君王将相治国平天下、赢得民心提供了很好的理论依据。在构建社会主义和谐社会的过程中,“敬德保民”思想对于消除不诚信、不道德、不公正等不和谐因素同样具有重要的指导意义,有利于诚信道德建设,有利于和谐社会构建。

The" Worshiping Virtue, Protecting Man" thougts formed in the Western Zhou Dynasty is a plain people-centered thought, and it is the core of state governance in traditional Chinese society. The thoughts consist of the concepts such as ethics, people, moral education, peopl.e-centered principle, moral cultivation, and the moral governance, which together provide a good theoretical basis for the ancient monarches and high officials to rule their country and win people's heart. During the construction of socialist harmonious society, the Worshipping Virtue, Protecting Man thougts are also important and valuable to eliminate the inharmonious factors such as dishonesty, immorality, and injustice.
