院辛亥革命前后是中国边疆危机日益加深的时期。面对边疆地区日益严峻的形势，统治集团决策层的边疆治理观念也发生了变化，既总结中国古代的边疆治理经验，又主动地借鉴近代西方的理念，提出了许多建议和意见。新中国建立后，民族政策和边疆政策互为补充、在特定时期和特定地区合二为一，取得了举世瞩目的治边成绩。在新形势下，需要重新审视我们的治边战略，适时大力开展边疆旅游，以适应新时期错综复杂的边疆稳定和民族团结问题。

Before and after the Revolution of 1911 is the crisis deepening period of China's frontier. Facing the increasingly grim situation in frontier area, the ruling clique decision-making level’s frontier governance concept was also changed. They not only summarized the frontier governance experience of Chinese ancient, but also initiatively learnt the philosophies of modern Western and made a number of recommendations and suggestions. After the founding of New China, national policy and frontier policies were complementary each other and combined in specific period and areas, has made remarkable achievements. Under the new situation, we need to re-examine the frontier governance strategies, timely and vigorously develop frontier tourism to accommodate complex frontier stability and national unity issues in the new period.
