This paper mainly describes EPON technology's background, strengths and network architecture, as well as the technical superiority that based on cost, speed and quality. China Unicom using EPON technology in copper wire replaced by fiber optic cable construction for networking, which has flexible network, easy maintenance, high efficiency. The problems in operation and maintenance process were found and the maintenance experience was got.
