“玄武”是“四象”之一，起源于古人对星象的朴素认识，后在祭祀仪式和阴阳五行思想的影响下融合了方位和颜色等元素，成为古人崇拜的北方神灵。对“玄武”的形象，自古以来都没有十分确定和统一的描述，古代文献中多粗略描述，学术界对其考古发掘的研究也存在众多分歧，这主要是因为“玄武”起源年代的久远和中国古代自然神话的不发达。本文试图通过研究古代文献和考古资料来考证“玄武”出现的时代，用神话学对其形象的分歧进行探索并分析道教对“玄武”的发展，以弥补学术界研究的不足。

“Xuanwu” is one of the Chinese astronomical four winged elephants ,which originated in astro-logical understanding by ancients ,and later combines elements such as orientation and color by the influ-ence of sacrifice ceremony and ideas of yin and yang ,to become the gods of the North worshiped by the ancients .For the image of “Xuanwu” ,ancient literature described simply instead of identified or unified description since ancient times ,and there are many differences in academic study of its archaeological exca-vations .It is due to the old origin for “Xuanwu”and lack of development for Chinese ancient mythology . This essay attempts to invest ancient literature and archaeological data to identify the era of “Xuanwu”ap-pearance ,and use mythology to explore and analyze how Taoism developed “Xuanwu”for its image in or-der to compensate for the lack of academic research .
