在汉画中，祥瑞、升仙画像石有很大的比重。由于汉代天人感应、君权神授观念的风行，统治阶级极端推崇谶纬迷信思想，世间的一切事物都被赋予各种吉凶兆应，依据谶纬学说而被创造出来的各种形态各异的祥兽瑞禽，成了统治阶级粉饰太平，为帝王歌功颂德的象征。
재한화중，상서、승선화상석유흔대적비중。유우한대천인감응、군권신수관념적풍행，통치계급겁단추숭참위미신사상，세간적일절사물도피부여각충길흉조응，의거참위학설이피창조출래적각충형태각이적상수서금，성료통치계급분식태평，위제왕가공송덕적상정。
