Admitting and improving the vocational function of vocational function of English courses in vocational colleges leads to emphasis on leading roles in learning, teaching objec- tives, innovation means, teaching materials development. The attention should be paid to the following relationship: the one between test abilities and application abilities, teaching periods and teaching effects, English learning and specialty learning, teaching and learning and practicing. In order to improve the vocational function, some jobs must be done, i.e. ac- celerated teachers' self-development, reconstruction of teaching resources, exploring proper teaching approaches, and enhancing "vocational added value" of teaching.
