在杜鹃与其宿主的协同进化中,宿主种群繁殖密度被认为是预测其是否被杜鹃寄生的重要指标.2011年4-8月,在贵州宽阔水国家级自然保护区对不同类型生境的红嘴相思鸟(Leiothrixlutea)的种群繁殖密度进行调查,以分析其种群繁殖密度与杜鹃(CuculWspp.)寄生之间的关系.红嘴相思鸟在宽阔水自然保护区分布广泛,平均种群繁殖密度为108.37±28.68只/km2,其中在次生林中最高,达201.41±7.36/km2,其次为灌丛和原生林.居民点的密度最低,为34.15±7.86只/km2.1999—2011年的繁殖季,共找到红嘴相思鸟的巢347个,均未发现被杜鹃寄生,巢寄生率为0.分析表明,繁殖时间和种群繁殖密度不是杜鹃未利用红嘴相思鸟的原因.

Population breeding density of hosts is regarded as a valuable index to predict cuckoo parasitism rate in avi- an brood parasitism. To test this hypothesis, population breeding density and brood parasitism rate of Red-billed Leio- thrix (Leiothrix lutea) were investigated from April to August, 2011 in Kuankuoshui National Natural Reserve (KKS), Guizhou, south-western China. Our results showed that the Red-billed Leiothrix is a widespread and dominant species with a population breeding density of 108.37±28.68 individuals per km2 in KKS. The highest density was detected in sec- ondary forest, with 201.41±7.3 individuals per km2, followed by shrub and primary forest. Residential area has the lowest density of 34.15±7.86 individuals per km2. A total of 347 nests of the Red-billed Leiothrix were found from 1999 to 2011 and the cuckoo brood parasitism rate of this host is 0. Breeding time and population density could not explain the ab- sence of cuckoo parasitism in the Red-billed Leiothrix.
