Pilgrimage to the West Sun Wu-kong animation adaptation role shaping

Since the birth of animation art, literature has served as its origin and they have developed to- gether all the time. Literature provides animation with numerous materials for recreation of and the possi- bility for reconstruction with the results of many classic animations. As a representative work of Chinese supernatural evilspirit novels, Pilgrimage to the West has been a focus of the animation adaptation. In its adaptation under different social, cultural and historical conditions, the image of Sun Wu-kong has started his seventy-two changes and become a person with basic feelings in a real life from a god and monkey s community by rewriting the story and reconstructing the plot. Through the comparison and analysis of Pilgrimage to the West and its adaptation's similarities and differences, we find narrative changes and the reconstruction of the elements are ways to explore the inheritance and the potential rules of changes with the adaptation of literary works into animations. The change of Sun Wu-kong's image marks the develop- ment of Chinese animation.
