The gecko adhesive technology that mimics the ability of the gecko to adhere to a target, will be a new way of on-orbit docking. Firstly, the development of on-orbit docking technologies is discussed. The progress made in this domain both in China and abroad is reviewed, including the attachment and detachment mechanism of the biomimetic gecko micro/nano-structure adhesive array and the fabrication methods. Then, various possible applications of the adhesive array in the space technology are analyzed. Finally, the key technologies involved are proposed.
