Introduction was made to the working principle of 30 kvar/380 V magnetically-controlled reactor. This paper analyzed five states of thyristors and diodes in commutation and its corresponding voltage and currency changes. A model was built to carry out simulation analysis and comparison was made between simulated waveforms and experimented waveforms, which verified the reasonability of protection circuit. This paper raised the selection method of power elements and protection circuit parameters.
