Basic principle of Permutation Entropy(PE) algorithm is mainly explained and its advantages are verified by simulated signal at first.Then application and research status of PE are concluded in the area of medicine,biology,mechanics and so on.Finally,developing trend of research in PE is pointed out in this paper.Research shows that PE algorithm can effectively amplify slight changes of a time series data and has advantages of easy computing and good quality in real-time application,which has a good application prospect in sudden change detection of signals.
