L.F.Bachman has made creative contributions to the language assessment field in terms of its theories,methods and practice.One of his salient focuses is validation.The AUA framework that Bachman and Palmer put forward integrates validation into the process of assessment design,development and use in its entirety,thus extending the language assessment research and practice.The paper reviews the AUA theoretical background,evolving process and its validation methods and aims at having a better understanding of Bachman’s latest interpretation and extension of validation and providing a new orientation for China’s language assessment research and practice as well.
