由卡尔松主导的环境美学二元论与伯林特代表的环境美学一元论是解读城市环境视觉审美的二大主流思想，无论是二元论还是一元论，对视觉环境界定及体系构建均不能满足现今社会对城市环境视觉的审美需求及基本维度辨识。环境审美必须做到在科技高速发展和人们心智急剧变化的今天，建立起适应新的社会审美价值需求，完善和健全科学的环境视觉维度，在二元论与一元论思想体系之上，重建城市环境视觉审美理论及基本维度。

The environmental aesthetics dualism dominated by Carlson and the environmental aesthetics monism represented by Berleant are the two mainstreams which interpret the urban environmental visual aes -thetic.However, neither the definition of visual environment nor the system construction of either Dualism or Monism can meet the aesthetic needs of modern society vision and the identification of basic dimensions of the urban environment .With the rapid development of science and technology as well as the dramatic change of people’s mind nowadays, environment aesthetics must set up and improve the scientific environmental visual dimension so as to meet the needs of new social aesthetic value , and it also has to reconstruct visual aesthetic theory of the urban environment and basic dimensions based on the ideological system of both Dualism and Monism.
