《朴通事集览》内容丰富，释义详审，十分注重对语词“取义源流”的推溯考求。所用方法主要有：分解语素、揭明异写、辨析音读和形音义互证等。虽然其中偶有不够确当之处，但在近代汉语词源研究及对外汉语教材研究等方面均有其重要的参考价值。

《박통사집람》내용봉부，석의상심，십분주중대어사“취의원류”적추소고구。소용방법주요유：분해어소、게명이사、변석음독화형음의호증등。수연기중우유불구학당지처，단재근대한어사원연구급대외한어교재연구등방면균유기중요적삼고개치。
Reference to Piao Tong Shi,which is rich in content and detailed in explanation,attaches much importance to the investigation of the origin of characters.The main approaches employed are as follows:to reduce word to morpheme;to find out the corresponding variant form;to differentiate and analyze pronunciations;to combine shape,sound and meaning of one character and so on. Reference to Piao Tong Shi ,in which,though,there are something inaccurate occasionally,is of great value for reference to modern Chinese etymology studies and TCSL (teaching of Chinese as a second language)textbook studies as well.
