Basic principle,process,evolution and revolution of mercury removal using calomel process in sulphuric acid plant are described.Some plants had very urgent issues with excessive mercury exiting their traditional calomel process scrubber.Kimre Inc adopted an improved technology and achieved good results by installing a two-stages SXFTM Semi-Cross Flow Contactor at the outlet of calomel scrubber.The mercury content in product acid was decreased substantially from 0.000 05 wt%-0.000 07 wt% to 0.000 02 wt%-0.000 03 wt%.By Further technical improvement and optimization,an improved process trademarked as MercurEx B-GONTM for the removal of mercury from gases generated in smelting has been developed by Kimre Inc and Hugo Petersen GmbH exclusively markets this technology.It can remove mercury as well as dioxins,and other heavy metals in power plant off-gases applications.
