This article describes the current situation of the use of example sentences in the teaching of foreign languages, and points out that example sentences have the dual function of explaining the language points and enhancing students' learning motivation. Starting from the relevant theory of the second/foreign language learning motivation, combined with cases, it proposed the three principles of designing the example sentences with motivation, such as integration of emotional factors, full of interest in the subject, importing cultural information.
