This article examines the present state of soil testing and formula fertilization in China and its theoretic basis as well as the limitations of various fertilization methods. Analysis and comprehensive evaluation are made on the design and data processing method of "3414"experiment. The focus of future research in quantitative fertilization is pointed out.
