高校的基本职能为教学、科研、社会服务，亦可称之为培养人才、发展科学、直接为社会服务。作为践行高校职能的主体，教师的职能也对应为教学、科研、社会服务三大职责。但目前高校教师三职责的履行情况存在不足，需从教师和学校两方面加强改进，促使教师更好的履行自身职责，促进高校健康发展。
고교적기본직능위교학、과연、사회복무，역가칭지위배양인재、발전과학、직접위사회복무。작위천행고교직능적주체，교사적직능야대응위교학、과연、사회복무삼대직책。단목전고교교사삼직책적리행정황존재불족，수종교사화학교량방면가강개진，촉사교사경호적리행자신직책，촉진고교건강발전。
the basic functions of universities for teaching, scientific research, social service, also known as personnel training, the development of science, serving society.
