Reactive power compensation is an important measure to guarantee the safe operation of distribution network in rural areas. The characteristics of rural distribution network, the technical principle and characteristics of the existing 4 rural distribution reactive power compensation technique are discussed, and the advantages and disadvantages are analyzed on the base of the technology features. At last, according to the characteristics of rural power distribution network, those reactive power compensation technologies are com-pared. It is showed that comprehensive local compensation technology is suitable for wide application in rural power distribution network.
