常熟理工学院升本十年来在应用文科人才培养、部分学科研究方向、社会服务和文化传承创新等方面成效显著，积累了基于办学格局发展精致文科、基于类型定位发展应用文科、基于品牌培育发展特色文科的基本经验。基于成就回顾和经验总结，提出新建理工类本科院校要因势而为，明晰文科发展的基本定位；分类指导，遵循文科发展的内在规律；勇于担当，承载文科育人的重要使命；校地互动，促进文科与地方文化建设和谐共生。

For the past ten years since being upgraded as an undergraduate university, Changshu Institute of Tech-nology has made remarkable achievements in many aspects including applied liberal arts talent training, the re-search direction of some subjects, social service and cultural heritage and innovation and accumulated basic experi-ence in developing delicate liberal arts based on the school-running pattern, developing applied liberal arts based on the type positioning, and developing characteristic liberal arts based on brand cultivation. On the basis of the re-view of the achievements and the summary of the experience, this paper puts forward the suggestion that the new-ly-built science and engineering undergraduate colleges and universities should take advantage of the opportunity to clarify the basic positioning of liberal arts, give classified guidance on following the inherent law of liberal arts development, have the courage to bear the responsibilities to undertake the important mission to educate students by means of liberal arts and conduct the interaction between university and local community to promote the con-struction of liberal arts and local culture as well as a harmonious existence.
