Schema Theory is of great significance in the teaching of college English listening in independent colleges. A schema is a net formed by the knowledge stored in the brain. English lis-tening comprehension is the process of integrating the new mate-rials heard into the schemata already existing in the brain of the listener. Because of the characteristics of their teaching of English listening, Schema Theory is in greater demand in independent colleges. so as to bring about changes in teaching model and method and thus to improve the effect of teaching.
