Pearl was a rare Chinese medicinal material with its high ornamental value.The composition and structure of pearl had an important influence on its quality.The main chemical components including the inorganic minerals,organic,trace elements and other related areas＇ progress were reviewed.Meanwhile,the present study on the structure of pearl was systematically and briefly introduced,including its development trends.
