The Direction-of-Arrival ( DOA) estimation problem based on virtual array extension is analyzed. For this problem, higher order statistics technique for array extension is a main way for traditional array processing method with a large amount of calculation. The proposed method is based on the fourth-order moments for estimating DOA of more source signals than array ele-ments. Computational complexity is reduced and the computational efficiency is improved by the special matrix array for extension to eliminate redundant information. The simulation verifies the algorithm is efficient and reliable, and provides a theoretical basis for engineering implementa-tion.
