This article analyzes the ranging principle of various existing fault location techniques and the main factor affecting measuring precision,proposes the traveling wave fault location technique based on wavelet transform can effectively improve the ranging accuracy, introduces the system components of traveling wave fault location technology and its application status in 500kV substation.
