从语用学的角度，运用维索尔伦提出的语言顺应理论中的语言选择观，对长篇小说《围城》中的言语幽默进行具体分析，得出如下结论：言语幽默可以出现在语言结构的各个层面，是处于不同意识程度的语言使用者动态地进行语言选择的结果。

The paper tries to analyze verbal humor in Fortress Besieged from the perspective of pragmatics which was consid-ered as a way of explaining language use by Verschueren who put forward the view of Making Choices. After a detailed interpreta-tion, some conclusions are received as follows : the verbal humor can appear in each level of the language structure, and it is the result of making choices dynamically with different degree of consciousness. This research can confirm that the view of making choices is powerful for the interpretation of verbal humor. At the same time, it has certain reference value for people' s apprecia- tion and use of verbal humor.
