北部湾临海工业的发展需要大量的化工人才。为了满足经济发展的需要，培养北部湾各化工产业需要的人才，是广西地方高校培养人才的目标。国内高校现有的化工专业方向设置模式存在一定的弊端，柔性专业方向的设置符合以人为本的教育理念，符合我国高等教育提出的：“宽口径、厚基础、强能力、高素质”的改革方向，更加便于根据经济发展的变化灵活的调整专业方向和知识体系的组成，使得专业方向的选择更加灵活，可以快速的根据人才需求市场的变化调整专业结构，从而可以更好的适应北部湾经济发展的需求。

The development ofcoastal industry in the Guangxi Beibu Gulf demands a huge quantity of professional workers in chemical engineering. It is local university' s responsibility and goal to cuhivate the needed professional personnel to satisfy the development of different chemical industries. Yet the present setting mode of chemical engineering specialty direction has some disadvantages, while the flexible specialty direction mode is heading for the same direction of Chinese higher education reform, which is more flexible and easier to be adjusted to the changes of human resource markets and the requirements of knowledge sys- tem. The new mode is more suitable for the fast economv develonment of the Guanaxi Beibu Gulf Area.
