宜丰手工造纸业有着独特的方法与习俗。民国时期,该县纸业曾有一段兴旺时期,当时纸业产值占了全县总产值的一半以上,是名副其实的支柱产业。丰富的木竹资源、宽松自由的制度环境以及＂纸业与钱庄＂产融结合的经营模式,造就了宜丰纸业的繁荣,但战争很快重创纸业,导致洋纸输入急增以填补市场需求,宜丰纸业步入衰落的恶性循环。
