The purpose of this study was to reveal residents' understanding of the basic knowledge about earthquake disaster mitigation in Guangzhou. Therefore, a questionnaire-based survey was conducted and interviewees' feedbacks were analyzed. The results demonstrated that residents of Guangzhou showed a lack of some basic knowledge of earthquake disaster mitigation. The conclusion reveals that the lack of earthquake awareness still exists in this region and the local government should attach importance to this phenomenon.
